The Scott Air-Pak SCBA is an open circuit, self-contained breathing apparatus designed to meet the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)Standard 1981. All components, excluding the air cylinder, have been designed and manufactured by Scott Health and Safety, a division of Tyco International, Ltd.
The 4 Components of an SCBA:
1. Backpack and Harness
The backpack is lightweight material, made of aluminum alloy. The harness made up of 2 shoulder straps, and waist belt. All made of kevlar.
2. Air Cylinder Assembly
Compressed breathing air, Ranges from 2200-4500 PSI. Can be 30, 45, 60, minutes. Pressure gauge shows pressure in bottle. Aluminum alloy inside, wrapped with carbon fiber, and fiberglass with an epoxy resin. Hydrostaticly testing every 3-5 years. Valve assembly from cylinder to hose and shut off value.
3. Regulator Assembly
Mounted on waist belt. Controls flow of air to user. Inhaling decreases air pressure in face piece. Emergency by pass valve for defogging, regulator failure over ride. Heads up display-Air status lights and low air flow alarm. Quick connect coupling, buddy breathing.
